7 Things You'll Wish You Didn't Know About Me

Ok, I've been putting this off long enough. I've been generously tagged by , , , , and for the 7 Things Meme. The difficulty in writing this is that I just couldn't think of 7 things about myself that I haven't already revealed to the world. So, I'm going to share some facts about myself that some of you may know, but most probably do not.

  1. Most people say I appear to be very confident. Truth be told, I doubt myself constantly.

  2. I've come a long, long way since I started teaching and I would (literally) get sick if I had to speak in front of a group of people. Now, although I still get pretty nervous, I'm able to give at conferences and I co-host a local TV show called . Those who know me, know how far I've come.

  3. Except for Canada and Mexico, I've never traveled outside the United States.

  4. When I was 13, I had a CB radio in my room. My handle was "NorthStar" and I used to stay up late at night "chatting" with my "good buddies." I should have known I was destined for Geekdom.

  5. In high school I was part of a dance group that got to compete in the Florida dance championship. It was our rendition of The Wiz' Ease On Down The Road that got us there. ! (Can't dance at all now.)

  6. I collect Bobble Heads. A few of my favorites are: Dick Vitale, Steve Hanson, Mean Joe Green, Billy Lindsay and Steve Irwin (he talks).

  7. I have a belly button ring.
So, there you have it. Belly-ring and all.

I am not surprised by your past in dancing for some reason. However, I am very surprised by your feeling of being uncomfortable speaking or even the self-confidence issue. You do a great job on the show and helping others whether it is on a PLN or your blogs.
Best Wishes,

Yeah, I think that belly-button ring is only the start of mysterious things about Lee.

I know how you feel about doubt and also presentations. I used to drop any class in college that had a speaking requirement. Finally, when I could drop no more, I took a speech class. Luckily I could write, so I ended up writing some decent speeches and doing just enough in performing them that I began to get noticed. That notoriety led to speaking in front of some important people and those few months of practice really helped.

I still get shaky, hot, queasy and other when I have to go in front of my peers. Biggest difference now though, I think of each time as a goal to accomplish, as a mountain to climb, and as a point of achievement.... and it helps. c

Thanks for sharing Lee!

It is surprising that you are uncomfortable when public speaking - you appear so relaxed in the Palm Beach Cafe spot. I am relaxed when my audience is children, add an adult and it always changes. I remember 10 great things I should have said after I speak.
I have only traveled to Canada (just over the Michigan border) and one cruise in the Bahamas. I still need to get further west than Minnesota.

A belly button ring sounds fun...My kids would flip if I got one.

Thanks. Again, had a wonderful time at FETC, largely thanks to you.

I enjoyed learning more about you. I would never have guessed 1 and 2 about you because you always seem so confident and "together"! I hope someday when I'm visiting my parents that we get a chance to meet!

Lee, I'm getting into tech coaching with my staff but have a lot of doubts about my own abilities/skills. Weird but also comforting to know that someone who I consider knowledgeable/creative feels similarly.
